Angus Underwood
Principal Ecologist
Red Dirt Ecology is grounded in over two decades of experience in ecological restoration, surveys, and land management on the north coast of NSW.
Angus brings a broad and varied skill set to his work from practical on ground experience, use of emerging technologies for field surveys, and development of biodiversity management plans and strategies. He has a particular passion for vegetation and habitat restoration and his experience spans rainforest restoration, nest box installation and monitoring, and a wide range of field survey disciplines. He has played a key role in developing and delivering numerous large-scale, multi-disciplinary conservation projects across northern NSW, with a focus on koalas, threatened ecological communities, large forest owls and gliders.
His career has involved delivery of biodiversity programs for local government during roles at Byron and Lismore Councils. He spent time in Vanuatu where he worked in partnership with the Department of Forests and Southern Cross University, and has also worked in private ecological consulting. Since 2023, Angus has been working with the Nature Conservation Council of NSW, coordinating the Large Forest Owls Project.
Red Dirt Ecology collaborates with other professionals as needed, combining rigorous scientific knowledge with hands-on field experience to deliver conservation outcomes that benefit both landscapes and wildlife.
