WILDLIFE HOUSING CRISIS !

Vegetation clearing has removed much of the original native vegetation in our area and now hollow bearing trees are very scarce. Tree hollows are used by hundreds of native species and hollows large enough to support many species take 100+ years to form.

Restoring native vegetation through bush regeneration programs is critical. However regenerating or regrowth vegetation lacks the essential nesting and breeding habitat tree hollows provide, so have limited value for many wildlife species.

Nest boxes are a practical way you can provide essential nesting and breeding habitat for possums, gliders, phascogales, antichinus, heaps of birds, microbats, reptiles and even frogs and tree snakes.

Harwood timber provides thick well insulated walls, like a tree.

Habitat Restoration Services

Installation

We can install nest boxes and other habitats to ensure their location and placement is optimised and they are positioned to provide the best option for the target species.

Monitoring

We can design and implement monitoring programs utilising technologies including inspection cameras, and camera traps to observe use and evaluate outcomes.

Nest box and habitat construction

We can undertake habitat assessments and design effective habitat restoration programs informed by target species ecology, habitat requirements and field obervations. We can prepare Habitat Management Plans and Strategies to guide the project delivery and monitoring.

Planning and program design

We built durable nest boxes using hardwood timber milling waste and recycled timber. Each nest boxes is unique and designs are informed by 20 years experience.

HABITAT HUDDLE

A Habitat Huddle is a group of nest boxes and/or constructed habitat features for hollow dwelling wildlife. Installed in regrowth and planted vegetation where natural tree hollows are scarce or absent nest boxes will provide valuable habitat, improve ecological function and connectivity and support a range of native animals to make themselves a home.

A Habitat Huddle can create an island of critical habitat used for shelter and breeding for squirrel glider, sugar glider, feathertail glider, southern greater glider, brush-tailed phascogale, common brushtail possums, ringtail possum, antechinus, a range of microbats, kookaburra, wood duck, Australian owlet-nightjar, lorikeets and treecreepers.
